Zane Grey, the American author and adventurer referrred to the Bay of Islands in 1926 as "An Angler's Eldorado" in his book, "Tales of the Angler's Eldorado, New Zealand" and this is still the case.
Land based fishing can yield a good catch and we can give you tips as to and suggestions as to fishing spots to try. We can also organise fishing charters for you.
Orongo Bay Holiday Park has a fish cleaning area and smokehouse together with plenty of room to park your boat and trailer. Apart from the New Year public holidays, you can drive your boat and trailer up to your cabin or campsite.
The Russell - Orongo Bay Holiday Park Lodge is an ideal venue for fishing groups and clubs, with a cosy log fire in winter and plenty of BBQ areas for socialising.
